What is the Arm Reach Test in Cabin Crew Interviews and How to Pass It

February 26, 2026
The arm reach test is one of the most talked-about (and feared) parts of the cabin crew physical assessment. Here is everything you need to know.
**WHAT IS THE ARM REACH TEST?**
You stand flat-footed and reach up along a wall marked with height measurements. Most Indian airlines require you to reach between 208 cm to 212 cm while standing normally.
**WHY DO AIRLINES USE IT?**
Cabin crew need to access overhead safety equipment — emergency oxygen, life vests, safety signs. The overhead bins on most commercial aircraft are between 205-212 cm. The test ensures you can reach them without needing to tiptoe or use a step.
**WHAT IS THE REQUIRED REACH?**
• IndiGo: 212 cm
• Air India: 210 cm
• SpiceJet: 208 cm
• Emirates: 210 cm
(These are approximate and subject to change — always verify with current job listings)
**HOW IS REACH CALCULATED?**
For most people, arm reach is approximately: Height × 1.33
So if you are 158 cm tall, your reach should be approximately 210 cm.
**TIPS TO MAXIMISE YOUR REACH**
1. Stand tall — posture makes a difference of 1-2 cm.
2. Stretch arms fully — do not bend at the elbow.
3. Do daily shoulder stretches to improve flexibility.
4. Wear shoes with at least a 2-inch heel for the assessment.
5. Reach sideways rather than straight up if the mark is slightly diagonal.
**PRACTICE DRILL**
Mark your wall at home. Practice touching the mark daily. Measure your progress weekly. Most students improve 2-3 cm with proper posture training alone.
Our Cabin Crew Preparation course includes specific posture and physical assessment coaching to ensure every student is ready for the physical rounds.
